Varma sustainability
Sustainability at Varma
Sustainability is not a trend for Varma — it is the foundation of everything we do. Icelandic wool is one of the world's most sustainable natural fibres, and we are committed to ensuring that our production processes honour both the environment and the communities that depend on it.
Icelandic Wool
Icelandic sheep have roamed the island's highlands for over 1,100 years. The wool they produce is unique — naturally water-resistant, breathable, and incredibly durable. Because it is a natural, renewable fibre, it is also fully biodegradable at the end of its life.
Local Production
Every Varma product is made in Iceland. By keeping our production local, we minimise transport emissions, support Icelandic jobs, and maintain direct oversight of our quality and environmental standards.
Longevity Over Disposability
We design our products to last for decades, not seasons. A Varma blanket or sweater is an investment in quality — something to be passed down, not thrown away. This is the most sustainable choice of all.
